Motocross des Nations Team Manager Announced

Having successfully managed the Irish Motocross des Nations team in recent years, Stephen Russell decided to step away for 2011 leaving a vacant position and some very big boots to fill. Few could argue that Russell would be a hard act to follow but Irish Motocross came up trumps this week with the announcement of Laurence Spence as Team Manager for 2011.

Laurence’s motocross pedigree is certainly not in question here. At the age of 17 he became the youngest ever Irish Champion before moving onto the world stage where during his Grand Prix career he raced for Factory Maico   and Kawasaki. After a successful racing career he then set up Spence Racing in Newtownards with engine tuning and service centre facilities. The experience Laurence brings to the table will be invaluable to the team. Hopefully all our riders have a strong and safe year so we can pick from an in-form and injury free pool of riders!

In other Irish Team news, Trevor Callaghan has been announced as Under 21 Team Manager for the Under21 Coupe d'Avenir. This year Ireland will also be entering an 85cc team with the 85cc Team Manager coming in the form of Ross Brown for the 85ccCoupe d'Avenir.

Team selection for 85cc Coupe d'Avenir:
The top two Big Wheel 85cc riders in the 2011 Irish championship will get a place subject to fitness and another "wild card" rider will be selected from the rest of the 85cc classes.
