About the MCI The Motor Cycle Union of Ireland was formed in 1902. It came about after a meeting held by motorcycle enthusiast James Percy. The Union was initially called the Dublin Motor Cycle Club but shortly afterwards it was agreed to change the name to the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (MCUI). The following year, 1903, the two centres came to exist, Ulster Centre and Southern Centre. The Southern Centre had been developing well and it was believed that there was a need for another Centre in Belfast. Following on from this the MCUI joined the FIM (Federation Internationale des Clubs Motocyclistes) in 1906. The MCUI is the governing body for a broad range of disciplines; Motocross, Enduro, Road Racing, Short Circuit, Trials and Vintage & Veteran. In 2002 the Union became the first Motorcycle Federation in the world to reach 100 years old.
For the Irish Motocross Championship the MCI and MRA work together to provide a national series with rounds split between clubs in both the Ulster and Southern Centre.
